Early Life

Born in Bristol in 1965 as Damien Steven Brennan, artist Damien Hirst was raised in Leeds. Arrested twice for shoplifting, Damien's path to success was far from smooth sailing. Whilst studying for his BA (1986–89), Damien Hirst became part of a group known as the Young British Artists, leading their first exhibition, "Freeze", in 1988. His first solo exhibition, "In and Out of Love", was in 1991 and became the first in a long line of successful exhibitions.
