This exhibition of paintings by Danny Howes focuses on life in the 21st century.
“I see myself as a storyteller, a narrator who uses oil and canvas to create characters and imaginary tales. Rather than romanticising the urban landscape and its people, I try to unearth the gritty, the comical, often tragic but always fascinating snippets of people’s lives. The paint itself plays an integral role with broad confident brushstrokes and vibrant colour helping to strengthen the underlying narrative. My scenes are not merely observations as all the figures and spaces in my paintings are amalgams of the real and the imagined, often based on elements borrowed from myself, from people I know, people I’ve briefly met, or have maybe dreamed of... a face in the crowd, the bloke walking his dog in the park, kids playing football, workers on a lunch break.” Danny Howes - May 2011
