Reuben Colley - Coast Paintings

Reuben Colley's name is synonymous with the industrial landscape of the UK. After immersing himself in these dramatic urban landscapes, with shadowy subways and looming concrete pillars, Reuben Colley finds that the city can become a bit claustrophobic. To remedy this and to regain a sense of perspective he makes regular trips to the western coast of Cornwall. The fresh sea air and dramatic natural backdrop is the perfect tonic to cleanse the soul.

This beautiful collection of small impasto paintings is created using a gestural thick application of oil paint enabling the light to reflect in a particular way, giving the artist additional control over the play of light on the finished pieces. These are very expressive paintings that need to be viewed to cature their full impact.
