In 2011, Stephen Earl Rogers came across a book which inspired a remarkable series of portraits.
'What to do in an Emergency' was published by Readers' Digest in 1986. It explains, and illustrates, what to do in a bewildering variety of emergency situations. How should you react if your TV bursts into flames, your tent collapses or your car is caught in a flood? This book has all the answers.
Rogers asked people from Birmingham's creative community to select the illustrations which appealed to them, and then to pick a colour. The resulting portraits are re-enactments of the illustrations, placing individuals and groups in bizarre situations.
Originally exhibited at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, this collection is now commercially available for the first time through Reuben Colley Fine Art.
