TWO OF OUR ARTISTS HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A SUCCESSFUL TRIP TO HOLLYWOOD. THE SYNERGY BETWEEN THEIR RESPECTIVE REPRESENTATIONS OF SUPERSIZE VINYL RECORDS AND CASSETTE TAPES MAKES THEM A NATURAL TEAM! HORACE PANTER AND MORGAN HOWELL WERE INVITED BY DIRECTOR/WRITER, DONICK CARY, TO SHOWCASE AND AUCTION SOME OF THEIR WORKS FOR THE ANNUAL MUSACK FESTIVAL. MUSACK IS A CHARITY THAT RAISES FUNDS TO BUY MUSICAL EQUIPMENT AND TUITION FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED YOUNGSTERS IN BOTH LA AND NANTUCKET. NEEDLESS TO SAY, ALL THE DONATED WORKS BY THE PAIR WERE SNAPPED UP AT THE AUCTION.
HORACE WAS ORIGINALLY COMMISSIONED TO PAINT FOUR OF HIS GIANT DEMO-CASSETTES ON A WALL IN DONICK CARY’S ‘BACKYARD’ – PERHAPS A MISNOMER AS HIS PARTICULAR BACKYARD IS BIG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE ANNUAL FESTIVAL! THIS ENTAILED HIM BEING ON HIS HANDS AND KNEES FOR FOUR DAYS IN THE INTENSE HEAT OF THE CALIFORNIA SUNSHINE. NOT TO BE THWARTED IN HIS MISSION, HORACE FINISHED THE PAINTINGS A FEW HOURS BEFORE THE DEADLINE AND THEY HAD TIME TO DRY BEFORE THE OPENING OF THE FESTIVAL.
MEANWHILE, MORGAN WAS ON A MISSION TO GET ONE OF HIS ORIGINAL SUPERSIZE VINYL PAINTINGS INTO THE LOBBY OF THE LEGENDARY CAPITAL RECORDS BUILDING. NATURALLY, HE CHOSE A PAINTING OF THE BEATLES’ SINGLE ‘YESTERDAY’ WHICH WAS RECORDED AT THE STUDIO. OBVIOUSLY, THE HEAD HONCHOS AT CAPITAL LOVED IT AND AGREED WHOLEHEARTEDLY THAT IT DESERVED A PLACE IN THEIR LOBBY!
THEY ALSO MET UP WITH AMERICAN GRAFFITI ARTIST SHEPARD FAIREY WHO, INSTEAD OF DOING ART ON WALLS, WAS THE OFFICAL DJ AT MUSACK THIS YEAR. WE ARE DELIGHTED TO HAVE ONE OF HIS EARLY RARE PRINTS IN THE GALLERY.
WE OFFER OUR CONGRATULATIONS TO HORACE AND MORGAN AND LOOK FORWARD TO SHOWCASING MORE OF THEIR WORK OVER THE COMING MONTHS. WE WILL, OF COURSE, KEEP YOU POSTED!
