Warhol's unique screenprint of Liza Minnelli

Warhol's unique screenprint of Liza Minnelli
In 1978, Andy Warhol took a polaroid photograph of Hollywood diva Liza Minnelli.  He regularly used a polaroid camera to capture images of his sitters, and the intimate nature of his photos is often reflected in the portraits he created. In his screenprint of Minnelli, her face hovers disembodied, pared down to the intense black of her hair and eye makeup and the bright red of her lipstick.  Minnelli's shoulder is suggested by a couple of tiny marks.  This striking image was a one-off screenprint, never published as a larger edition.

'Liza Minnelli' is hanging in our Winter Exhibition, alongside Warhol's screenprint of Ingrid Bergman wearing a hat.
